PURCHASING ORIGINAL ARTWORK

From Maddy Gyselynck Fine Art

Dirty Paintbrushes

HOW TO BUY WORK

Thank you for considering a purchase of original artwork by Maddy Gyselynck. All pieces are unique one-off artworks. She does not currently produce giclée prints. The only exceptions are bronze sculptures, where the run of editions is clearly stated. Please see here for more details on editions of bronzes.

If the work you're interested in is not currently shown in the online shop, or if you are based outside the UK, please get in touch by email or through the contact page with the details of work you wish to purchase. Assuming the work is available, Maddy will be in touch to request a delivery address to quote for shipping, and you will receive an invoice. Until the invoice is paid, the works remain the property of the artist and available for sale. Once paid, the works will be packaged carefully & shipped to you usually within 1-2 business days. If it is likely to be longer due to drying time, holidays etc, Maddy will let you know in advance.

FRAMING

Please check the descriptions on items in the shop to see if the price stated includes a frame or not. If you would like a quote for any framed artwork but without a frame please contact. If you would like further details on a frame on any specific piece please contact.

Some works in the online shop and on Maddy's Instagram page have had examples of frames digitally added to help you visualise the artwork. This may or may not be the exact frame the artwork comes in, if it is labelled as framed. Maddy can organise and quote for alternative frames if required.

VARNISHING

For oil paintings, colours appear deeper and last longer when paintings have been varnished after they've dried, which Maddy is happy to do from her studio at no extra cost when the painting is fully dry. This also protects the work for the long-term.

Since 2024, Maddy's standard varnish for oil paintings is a gloss finish (by Gamvar), as she has found this one to be safe to use while the painting may still be curing, as it is 'breathable'. Please contact if you would prefer a different finish such as Satin or Matte. Please note that this may impact the time it takes before a painting can be dispatched as it takes longer to dry.

RETURNS & REFUNDS

The photographs provided are taken in balanced light (close to natural daylight), but there will always appear to be differences from real life and between screens, especially as oil paint cures over time. Colours always look very different depending on the characteristics of the light in the room in which the painting hangs. Please do ask if you would like to see more pictures or videos of work before making a final decision to purchase. It is no trouble at all as it is important you are happy with any decision. Maddy would also be happy to arrange a studio visit to see works in person.

Because of this, sales are final. Please be sure of your purchase before buying. If you are unhappy with work you have received, however, please do get in touch to discuss options.

All works are checked thoroughly and packaged carefully before shipping. In the unlikely event that a work arrives damaged, you must get in touch within 24 hours of receipt.

SHIPPING COSTS

Postage and packaging costs are shown during the checkout process in the online shop once a delivery address has been provided. Within the UK are usually in the region of £5-15. There are cheaper options for local delivery in South West London, and free studio collection, or collection direct from a Gallery during an exhibition.

If you are not buying through the online shop portal (e.g. a commission organised driectly with Maddy) shipping costs will be added to the invoice.  These are usually within the region of £8-15 within the UK. Larger or heavier works can be substantially more expensive. Please get in touch for an estimate in advance if required.

Maddy will provide the tracking details with confirmation of dispatch.

Please note that if the courier returns the item to sender - for example due to the recipient not collecting from the Post Office or rearranging redelivery - then the cost of shipping again will be the responsibility of the buyer. Maddy cannot be held responsible if you do not make sensible arrangements with the courier to get the painting into your hands. If you would like a painting to arrive on a specific day when you know you will be home, please contact Maddy when making your order.

Please triple check the delivery address you provide.

COMMISSIONS

For commissions of oil paintings or sculptures, please get in touch for an initial no-obligation discussion. Commissioning work is a big decision for both the client and the artist, and Maddy does not take many. The process can take several months and there will be a dialogue throughout to ensure that both parties are happy.

All accepted commissions will include a 50% deposit, which is only refundable if the artist is unable to begin the work. Commissioned work may be rejected by the client but the work will need to be returned and the deposit is non-refundable. Maddy always aims to create unique work that you will love and will not send you work that she is not 100% happy with herself.

Shipping costs will be added to the invoice. Maddy will request 50% of the payment before starting the work, and 50% before dispatch or collection of the final artwork.

WATERCOLOUR COMMISSIONS

For information on commissioning a small bespoke ink or watercolour of your front door or home, please click here. These can be ordered through this website directly and do not require the same level of discussion and cooperation as an oil painting. Maddy has also done one or two portraits of pets in watercolour in the same way so do get in touch if you'd like a painting of your pet at a similar price point.
